I was asked to publish the piece I tried to read on Saturday because of the technical problems of feed back I stepped back and few could here what I said so here it is . This is what got Cargary. Ingleside, and Lachute ,together and the rest is history. Took a long drive the other day around this old town that Ive called home for most of my life, and I dare say there are few places where there is not a memory or a name that doesnt pop up. From the Lake that gave us our drinking water, to the west side of town where the sale of local produce is on display, to the east side log cabins, to the farmlands of the south. Names come up like, Drennons, and Berry, Brass, Pollock, Lyster, Morrow, Thorburn, Lowe, Drew, Gordon, Barnes, and Wilson ,Prophet, Hammond,Royal, and Beals,, Bechtel, and Boyd, Lilly,Copeland,Brown,Pilon, and Rendal, Mercier, and McArthur, Cox, and Rodgers, Black, Brown,White, and,Scott,Willman,Bouvrette,Dewar,Hodge, and Muir, McRae, McOuat,McLean, Parker,Simon, Pagé, MacDonald,Lalonds,Desjardins, Matte,Duncan,Watchorn,MacKimmie, just to name a few. From thoughts like there use to be a water tower there, to once we played hockey on an open rink behind that dairy, to thats where my first child was born, to I remember the twins use to get on the bus here. There used to be a big maple tree at the west side of this old school thats where I kissed my first girlfriend. Theres where me and Dougie Meyers use to whip the softball at each other for hours on end. Names like David Goreman, and David McKrea, and Douglas Black, and Serge Mercier, come rushing in. Each street a memory and each name a memory attached. For all of us there is a town we grew up in and the memories of which can be summoned up if one wishes. Today I made it so.
