I was asked to share more about my upcoming travel to Canada and how Im preparing for international travel while eating a Paleo diet. Im leaving Sunday with my girls to go home for three weeks (and yes, Im doing two book signings while Im there, one in Vancouver and one in Seattle, more information here: thepaleomom/events ). Well be staying with family, who either eat very similarly to us or understand how we eat, so I dont need to think much about what were going to eat on the other side. But, I do need to think about what foods to bring on the airplanes that will be allowed across the border for myself and my girls. This is a little bit easier for me because I have reintroduced eggs, nuts, seeds, chocolate and even coffee (all are fine as long as they arent daily), so its not like last summer when I was doing the full AIP. But, its really hard to get nightshade-free foods while traveling, so Im still stuck bringing lots of feed with us. The challenge with my kids is always nonperishable protein that theyll actually eat (they dont like jerky, meat sticks, or Epic bars, silly girls). But, over time, Ive accumulated a great list of Go To foods for travel. In my carry-on bag, there will be some perishables for the first airplane (before we cross the border), including apples, carrot and celery sticks, and grass-fed hotdogs (for my girls). Ill also have some non-perishables that can cross the border: jerky from US Wellness Meats (the Extra Dry Plain Jerky is shelf stable and AIP-friendly), plantain chips (I buy Good Sense from Amazon), sweet potato chips (I like Food Should Taste Good, which I also buy from Amazon), Clif Kit bars, Epic bars (the bison flavor is AIP-friendly), Rx Bars (my girls love both Apple-Cinnamon and Blueberry), dried fruit, and Veggie-Gos. Sometimes I also make a homemade trail mix, not sure if Ill be doing that this time or not (since weve got so many other great foods already). All those non-perishable foods will also be the things I keep in my purse whenever were out and about (or should I say oat and aboat) during the trip. Im not as familiar with restaurants etc. where we can get gluten-free, dairy-free (and nightshade-free) meals, plus, well be going to a lot of parties associated with my brothers wedding (woot!) and I need to be prepared with emergency food in case we cant get something safe for us to eat there. It will be standard procedure to have enough emergency food for two meals for all three of us in my purse at any given time (think about how strong my left shoulder will be by the end of our vacation!!!). ---- Heres some links (most of these are affiliate links, just FYI, but know that I would never join an affiliate program for a product I dont use and love myself): US Wellness Meats: thepaleomom/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/USWellness1.jpg Tendergrass Farms also has an AIP-friendly jerky which I havent tried (it just launched last week!), but Ive loved everything else Ive tried from them: grassfedbeef.org/138-50.html Plantain Chips (these ones are roasted with palm oil): amazon/gp/product/B00C3JELQK?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00C3JELQK&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20 Sweet Potato Chips (these ones are kettle cooked with sunflower oil): amazon/gp/product/B00BGOL6VG?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00BGOL6VG&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20 Epic Bars: amazon/gp/product/B00ESP8TEC?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00ESP8TEC&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20 Rx Bars: amazon/gp/product/B00H9FG5T4?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00H9FG5T4&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20 Clif Kit Bars: amazon/gp/product/B008OTSPLK?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B008OTSPLK&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20 Veggie-Gos: amazon/gp/product/B00BUSA2FO?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00BUSA2FO&linkCode=xm2&tag=wwwthepaleomo-20
