I was at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, for two weeks. I was highly impressed. Here is a truly Don Bosco institution. Wherever we look, from 8 am or so to 6 pm or even later are people all over the place - children and youngsters, all of them busy learning. There are three "places" under the care of three fathers. In the "Youth Centre" there were 165 youngsters, mostly from remote village, who had studied up to class VIII, X or XII, mostly girls, all of them tribals. They are getting ready to move to Delhi for a six months course in spa and beauty care. They do two weeks in Itanagar to "polish" themselves up - learn more English, ways of city life (use of proper water closets,e.g.) - a sort of orientation course so that they will benefit the maximum from their six months in Delhi. In the small narrow "hall" or verandah of the second place - the "Youth Centre Town Office", 375 children receive totally FREE education! With what love Rosline teaches those kids! Rs 3000 is what it takes to care for a child for a full year. A very small and an excellent investment for the future of such beautiful kids! At the "parish" you find children in the residence of the fathers, in the open hall attached to the church building and even in the house of the gatekeeper - all of them learning, studying, playing, practising dances, ...... A wonderful atmosphere of learning, joy, music, games, family, peace and harmony in all three places. And such harmony among the three fathers, too - Fr Mathai, Fr. Cyriac and Fr Amaladoss. God bless them and all their hard work right round the clock for the good of these children and youngsters.
