I was attending Northwest Missouri State University 13 years ago when we were told an airplane struck one of the twin towers. Televisions were rolled into the hallways so students could watch. My mom who is a flight attendant and who lives in New York was flying home from visiting us in Iowa that day, but we were pretty confident she was ok. My moms husband Steve worked right across from the twin towers and saw the second plane crash into the second tower. He was one of the thousands of people covered in white ash forced to walk miles upon miles home over the Brooklyn Bridge that day. Chaos ensued as rumors spread that the bridge was going to be blown up. My sister Tinas last job (before moving back to the Midwest) was working at the World Trade Center a few months before Sept. 11th. New York holds a big place in my heart. My first visit was when I was 17 years-old and although Id traveled to other cities, Id never experienced a city with such a magnificent pulse and energy and to this day, havent found a city that compares. I was lucky enough to visit the twin towers during my first visit to New York, not knowing at the time just how special that visit would be. With all thats going on in this world right now, I am so grateful to live in a country that is free. Thank you to those who have sacrificed their lives to ensure our freedom. God Bless New York City and God Bless America!
