I was born a day like today several decades ago. As I grew up, I saw Kamba, Embu, Kikuyu, Mijikenda, Meru, Somali, European, Asian and Arab traders lodge at our rural home for free every Friday en route Nuu Market day that falls on Saturdays. Teachers; Mr Kamau(Kikuyu) and Mr Nyaga (Embu) used to stay at our home without paying rent commuting to work at Kaai primary daily. My mother used to cook for them. I grew knowing they were my brothers. My father((RIP) told me the kind of visitors you entertain determine the kind of person you grow up to become in future. My early days in life had nothing like tribalism until I heard a person called Kenyatta had died. I did not know such a man existed until he died and another person called politician said that man who died was a Kikuyu. I asked my mother if politician says Kenyatta is kikuyu tribe, then what is the tribe of politician. My mother looked at me harshly and told me go ask your grandmother I knew that I had crossed the red line and I kept quite until I became of age to know politician is selfish tribeless opportunist who sows tribal hatred among clueless in society for his gain. Today; my wall is painted with beautiful happy day wishes from friends of all walks of life. To me; it does not matter whether you are white or black, Muslim or Christian, poor or rich, old or young, Jubilee or cord, married or single. I see you as a friend; indeed a brother or sister born of another mother! Thank you for your warm birthday wishes!
