I was born in 1970. I grew up with images of the Apollo Moon - TopicsExpress

I was born in 1970. I grew up with images of the Apollo Moon landings. I watched Star Trek at my fathers feet. Dad took me to Cape Kennedy when the Space Shuttle was being built and I remember being fascinated by the tiles on its skin and the huge doors built into its hanger. They named her Enterprise. This birthed an interest in engineering and technology that became not just my career, but a calling. For me that meant the future could come true. That space was something my generation would be the first to truly explore. When I saw the Space Shuttle finally perched on the launch pad, I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Every time I have seen it since then it instantly evokes strong emotions. When they broadcast the launch in HD, I wept from sheer joy. Im afraid the next generation wont have a sense of a future coming true that we did. They dont seem to truly believe that dreams, big dreams, are possible. They dont have an iconic spaceship filled with real people, going out to explore the universe that we did in the Space Shuttle and our parents did in the Saturn V. They dont believe they can fly. Its time we stop bailing out billionaires, and start properly funding the future...and dreams.
