I was born in 1979...the year that Scotland were voting in a referendum with the modest proposal of creating a Scottish Parliament with limited powers. Then, they were told, vote no in the referendum and youll get a much stronger parliament. What we got instead was a Conservative government for 18 years that we didnt vote for, which caused industrial devastation and no parliament. That was not the Scotland that my parents wanted for my brothers and I as we grew up, and it is certainly not one that I want for my children. This is history repeating itself. The same spiel, the same promises and the same total disregard by the leading parties for our country. Yes, we are part of the UK, but a part which has been consistently ruled by a government who we did not vote for and who do not look out for the interests of our nation. The moral story from recent Scottish history shows that the only way to secure our future as a country is to create it ourselves and stop being the least favoured child of dysfunctional parents.
