I was challenged by Valerie Cozart to share 5 things about me you might now know. This is hard since I am such an open book (no pun intended there) with everyone. Lets see what I can come up with... 1. Im shy by nature. Painfully shy as a child. No, seriously! People dont believe me but I have others who can back me up. I had a very small circle of friends otherwise I was a shy loaner. In 10th grade I got a role in the school play and it really helped pull me forward and out of the shadows. As an author, I am always pushing myself out of my little corner to enjoy every moment with people I know and dont know. 2. I work full-time in addition to being a novelist. Its a job I love for a company Ive been at for 17 years. Its a balance between my life, my job and my writing, but I usually find the sweet spot. 3. I have a BFA in dramatic writing - emphasis on screen writing. I wrote plays, teleplays, screenplays, made short movies and all around immersed myself in that world. I spent whole semesters on Shakespeare and dissecting movies like Chintatown. Now Im nowhere near it, but somewhere else. This wasnt exactly what I had in mind when I went to college, but I believe the road in life takes us where were supposed to be. 4. I had a palm reading done about 4 years ago and she told me I had 18 past lives. 18! Apparently I had something to accomplish I hadnt yet done, but she assured me that I would get it done in this lifetime. It appears after 20 lives, my soul is in jeopardy of never finding peace. She also told me that in past lives, I had been royalty and had drowned once. I like to think this rich history of my souls journey is what lends me the authenticity for my historical westerns. Maybe I was Annie Oakley... 5. Ive lived in 4 states in my life. New York (born/raised - 22 years), Connecticut (5 years), California (1 1/2 years) and North Carolina (17 1/2 years). My older son was born in CA and the younger in CT. Ive been in NC now for almost as long as I lived in NY and I cant imagine living anywhere else. Did I surprise anyone? Family doesnt count - you know all of this already. LOL.
