I was checking out an organic food store today and I bought myself a banana to snack on. When I was finished the manager kindly offered to take the peel from me to dispose of it (I was carrying it around to take home to my compost bin). I asked if she was going to compost it and they dont compost. I brought it home. Food gets grown in foreign lands, nutrients are sucked out of the soil and create the food, it is shipped to us to eat, we eat it to nourish our bodies and that which is not eaten should be honoured by returning to the soil through composting. We need to respect these cycles and to help complete them whenever we can. Nutrients, organic matter, elements... all need to be processed in a manner that help them be food for other creatures - recycled through composting. At Earths General Store we recycle and compost all of our materials.
