I was coming down Hwy. 41 Spur this morning on my way to work. I saw a car pulled off on the shoulder. My thoughts flew so quickly one flowed into the other: That looks like my Mom’s car! That’s not my mom outside the car (although at first glance the hair seemed the same); maybe she stopped to pick up someone. What’s amazing to me is that I looked for her knowing she wasn’t going to be in the car. But still, I looked. As I drove on by I realized the car wasn’t even the same color as hers, a trick of the sun I’m sure. It all happened in the blink of an eye. The outloud and ugly cry lasted much longer… I get my usual morning call from Tim and I’m still so shook up that I can’t even share this with him yet. Later I pulled out my Jesus Calling and read today’s passage: “My constant Companionship is the piece de resistance: the summit of salvation blessing. No matter what losses you experience in your life, no one can take away this glorious gift.” The gift of my mother was cut way too short; the gift of our Lord remains forever. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Living Bible Translation 3-4 What a wonderful God we have—he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.
