I was coming out of Costco a couple of days ago and my cell phone rings. I noticed that on caller ID it said, Jamaica. But I answered it and a man told me that I had won a new car and a large certified check from Publishers Clearing House. I asked him what kind of car. He told me a 2013 Mercedes. He asked if I was going to be home later that day, that someone was in my area to stop by and do all the paper work. But he told me to get a piece of paper and write down a phone number. I was in the car by then so I wrote the number down. He told me that I had to call that number "immediately" to get things going. It was a 856 area code. btw, I did not call. When I got home, I went to the PCH web site and of course, it was a scam. I did not think that PCH would notify someone who had won that kind of prize that way. There is a way that scammers can get into your phone bill if you call these numbers and put large amounts of money on it. Not sure how it works, but it can mess up your day. But it would have been cool if it were true...Phooey.
