I was contacted by Regional Counselling and Mentoring Services Inc to promote their sleepover to bring awareness to the homeless in the Lower Great Southern. While I see why they are doing it, sleeping rough for one night, with a swag isnt bringing awareness to the plight of the homeless, most of us do that over a weekend camping. To truly understand what its like to be homeless, they need to stay out for a week, with no swags. Just a cardboard box, a doorway, a pipeline, near the jetty. No breakfast, no lunch, and maybe soup from the soup kitchen for dinner. Only then would they be able to understand what its like to not have a home to go too. What are your thoughts?
