I was digging around through some old papers and racing sovos and ran across some notes i took from 1975 in the Ohio era of flattrack. I spent more time writing on paper about the races then I did more school work, but I did Gradg-e-ate!!!! It was April 27 1975 on a cold day in Springfield Ohio. Corky KennerH-D held of Jimmy ZieglerH-D for the win in the expert class,Tom Cummings H-D was third,Ricky Campbell forth,Jimmy Osborne BSA, Scott Drake BSA, Carl Patrick H-D,and Chuck Jordan Yam followed. Terry Brow H-D won the Jr class with Steve PEE-WEE Anthony Yam second and Jerry Baker Tri 3rd. Some kid named Jackie Mitchell Bul won the novice class withJerry Hardin Bul and Bill Rees on a four stroke Honda 3rd!!! The next race was down by the Ohio river at Lucasville Ohio on May 4th. A young Rookie 65x from Mich named Jay Springsteen H-D won the expert class with Scott Drake BSA second Steve Morehead Tri, Corky Kenner H-D, Ken Springsteen H-D,then Greg Sassaman H-D, Paul Pressgrove H-D, Ricky Campbell Yam and Chuck Jordan Yam. I had Steve PEE-WEE Anthony dad of Rob Anthony winning the Jr main on a Yam and Mike DeWeese TRI and Terry Brow H-D finishing 2nd and 3rd. Garth Brow Bul won the novice main followed by Bill Rees Hon and Gary Bobb Bul 3rd!!!! Marion Ohio..aka Chewville was the next race May 11 1975. Springer won the expert class again with Steve Morehead TRI 2nd, Scott Rader H-D, Ricky Campbell Yam,Steve Droste H-D, Doug Sehl H-D, Mike Caves H-D, and Chuck Jordan Yam. I remember Corky fell off and also 4 years later in Marion, Jay Won again and Steve Morehead was 2nd on factory H-Ds. Springer had been sick off and on and showed up fit for bear hunting, it was great to see him back. Terry Brow H-D won the Jr race with Ted Boody Yam 2nd and Mike Mathews Tri 3rd. Gonzo Garth Brow BUL won the novice class with Jerry Hardin Bul 2nd and Audey Witt Yam 3rd. I wasnt able to go to Greenville Ohio and in a after the fact way IM GLAD I DIDNT. It was the next day after Greenville we learned that 99f Chuck Jordan had lost his life in the race there!!!! R.I.P. 99F!!!! Hope you excuse my ramblings but WOW what a GREAT time to be a flattrack kid in the State of Ohio!!! CHEW.
