I was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). According to their letter, The tradition of electing AAAS Fellows began in 1874 and every year the Council elects members whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished.” Specifically, I am being honored “for leadership of the Virtual Observatory and the emerging field of AstroInformatics, and for considerable body of work on surveys and transient discovery.” This is actually not such a big deal as it may look to the uninitiated, but it is nice to have ones work recognized.
