I was exiled from Vietnam because I was a Buddhist monk who spoke - TopicsExpress

I was exiled from Vietnam because I was a Buddhist monk who spoke out against a war that was killing my brothers. When I was exiled, I was like a bee taken out of the bee hive. Almost every night I dreamt of going home. If I hadn’t practiced meditation, I would have dried up. I wrote to Martin Luther King Jr in 1965 to explain why some of the Vietnamese monks had immolated themselves. It was not suicide. Sometimes we have to burn ourselves alive in order for our voices to be heard. That was done out of compassion. It was not an act of despair, but love. Jesus Christ died in that same spirit. We Vietnamese thought America had produced a bodhisattva in Martin Luther King. When they assassinated him, I couldn’t believe it! ~ Thich Nhat Hanh https://youtube/watch?v=NJ9UtuWfs3U&feature=em-subs_digest-vrecs
