I was given government transit quarters in old Chenderiang Road, - TopicsExpress

I was given government transit quarters in old Chenderiang Road, about five kilometers from town. There is a footpath about two hundred meters from the house to Temoh Road, the main road to Ipoh. These were single storey semi detached houses, six units in all. These houses were built after the Japanes Occupation to house the increasing number of government servants, that is how we are called. I moved to the government quarters at the end of 1962. My wifes mother, Mrs Leong Pak Lin nee Chan Good Nya in Kuantan offered to take care of our second child Oi Suan Kim aka Kathryn Oi. So we drove to Kuantan to leave Oi Suan Kim at the end of 1962. This arrangement lasted only for three months. My mother-in-law found .it strenous getting up at night to feed the baby. We brought her back to Tapah. We had a succession of tree servants, none lasted more than a month. Their cmplaint is that the place is very quiet. They do not even see any of the neighbours. So we resorted to leave Oi Suan Kim with my wifes aunt in Baldwin Hill on the way to school and collect her after school. This lasted to the end of the 1963. In the meantime we applied for a transfer to KL. We were both posted p Kajang, I was placed in Kajang High school while the wife in Yu Hua Secondary School. We moved all our things to my parents house in Hose Road, KL. Now my mother looked after Oi Thian Soo and Oi Suan Kim when both of us travelled to Kajang to teach. The Senior Assistant of High School lives.in Kajang Garden and recommended me to a single storey terrace house not far from his place and his Chinese servant got us a mother and daughter to work for us. So we moved our things from KL to Kajang and settled down to life as one family.. We soon got our third child, Oi Suan Gaik, delivered in the KL Maternity Hospital, a newly built facility. My brother, Dr Oi Yok Han and his wife, Dr Gloria Lee were doing their housemanship in the KL Hospital, recommended the wife to have the baby there under Dr McCoy. Our fourth child was delivered at the Chinese Maternity Hospital, Pudu Road in on 1st June, 1965. She was named June Oi Suan Cheng. My wife told Dr McCoy, who started private practice in CMH, that she wanted to close shop. After smoe discussion, he agreed to perform the minor surgery.
