I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. Psalm 122:1 Our congregation at the Leamington Road 10am service is a collection of mixed ages—a family! Like all families, there is some tension between the generations….. The word ‘Reverence’ is used by some as being lacking by others! What does reverence mean? · a feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration · the outward manifestation of this feeling: to pay reverence · a gesture indicative of deep respect; an obeisance, bow, or curtsy · the state of being revered So what are those who feel that reverence is lacking asking? They are asking that everyone remembers the reason why they have come to the service. So take a few minutes and ask yourself “why do I come to church?” “Why am I here?” “What do I want from this service?” The recent ‘Your thoughts count’ survey showed that: · St James is a welcoming church, welcoming visitors and church members alike! · Caring for each other as a family Sadly, we have some of our family feeling at odds with each other and not feeling cared for and some have taken the decision to go to other services, others are considering doing this. What can we do? We can be more tolerant of each other; we can appreciate the churchmanship of others and we can accept each other as different family members. The Staff Team have requested that coffee is not served after 9.50am to allow those ‘family’ members who want to, to sit in a more peaceful atmosphere and prepare themselves for the service. This can mean, praying, listening to God, remembering why we have come to the service etc. A small problem, but with tolerance and understanding, we can be a happy united family. “Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary.” Leviticus 19:30 “But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house; in reverence will I bow down towards your holy temple” Psalm 5:7 “Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe” Hebrews 12:28
