I was having a discussion with someone the other day about vacation days. That person said they think it best that if workers have earned 2 weeks vacation that they be allowed to piece meal one of the weeks but they should have to use the other whole week all at once. That person said they think that it is best to make the worker take a whole week to get away and refresh themselves and rest and relax and completely get their mind off work for 5 full days. I stated that I most completely disagreed. I believe tid bits of days used every now and then can bring about the best most refreshing renewals of things. I know all people are different in their thinking and preference of things but in my opinion an extra off day every now and then is like a breath of fresh of air and can give renewed mental and physical energy like catching your second wind. If you use up all your vacation days at once…..what do you have to look forward to? To me that would be like God plopping every single blessing all at once in your lap for five days and never again for the rest of the year being blessed again. What if God did that to us? I don’t think we would appreciate it at all. I think momentarily it would make some of us feel on top of the world….as if we were tallest of the tall. And yet to others, in the blink of an eye when time was up for the all at once blessing to be gone…..we would feel very very so terribly sad and small. A few days later it occurred to me…..whether you are the richest person who owns lots of diamonds and pearls or you stow away on trains and call the rails your stealing home…… it’s not about luck or empty pockets or lots of bucks…..it’s not about time earned from your salary or no fire to burn your scavenging can of empty calories….. like a tickle on your forehead when the wind blows a small wisp of hair……the Lord sends us gentle blessings…..they are everywhere……often we don’t see them…….for we are wrapped up in ourselves…..vacationing in our own affairs. We should consider each morning when we open our eyes……a vacation day ……and find a way to find joy and praise. For this vacation day is simply glory from the Lord……and we have His Word on it……we are promised many more blessings…….oh so many more. ~by Sheila White
