I was having dinner at a conference when one of my fellow diners got talking about cell phones and how people were being scared by activists about the devices causing brain tumours when in fact there is precious little evidence that they do any harm. A scientifically minded person, I thought. Then she continued. The epidemic of brain tumours isnt caused by cell phones, she opined, it is caused by all the genetically modified foods we are being plied with. Like these grotesque strawberries....as she pointed to the strawberry slice on top of the giant slice of cheesecake she was digging into. Felt like banging my head into the table...but there was thatcheesecake...
