I was honored to have attended Touro Law Center during a program dedicated to Kristallnacht Remembrance. I spoke about Aristides de Sousa Mendes and his efforts to free refugees from the horrors of the Nazi war machine. Saturday, November 9, 2013 marked the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass), a Nazi-sponsored assault against Jews throughout Germany and parts of Austria on November 9-10, 1938, generally regarded as the beginning of the Holocaust. Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Portuguese Schindler, was a WWII diplomat who disobeyed orders of his government and granted visas out of Occupied France to 30,000 refugees, including 12,000 Jews, the largest rescue action by a single individual during the Holocaust. Thank you to Touro Law Center and Dean Salkin for having me. It was an honor to be with you.
