I was impressed with the Revitalize Shockoe Bottom today at MLK - TopicsExpress

I was impressed with the Revitalize Shockoe Bottom today at MLK Middle School. I blissfully slept late this morning waking up at 9:30 to realize the meeting started at 10:00 (thanks Facebook). The dogs got walked, I skipped breakfast and booked to the meeting (10 minutes by car), scalded my mouth on the free coffee and took my seat just as the meeting started at 10:15. First off the I was impressed by the demeanor of the President of the Slave Trail Commission. He took personal insults with grace when accused of betraying his people. He defended the work and commitment of the commission to preserving the history of slavery in Richmond. He had a pretty good grasp of the facts too and responded well to a number of questions. Byron Marshall was the key speaker and spoke directly to financing. Im not going to recount it here (maybe in the comments later), but I feel much more grounded in the financing that I did previously. Dont get me wrong. I always believed this was a winner and a big net plus for the City, but now I know a little more of the mechanics on how this will work. Im not an accountant, but its nice to know your gut feeling can be backed up by hard numbers. There is always a chance of failure, but I feel strongly that the City and its taxpayers (me included) are adequately insulated from it. I have a lot more to say on this. More later.
