I was irked by the announcement on the State-owned radio station - TopicsExpress

I was irked by the announcement on the State-owned radio station calling civil servants to the Ahiajoku Center for a fresh round of verification exercise. This has now become a trend in this state with the government calling out teachers and civil servants indiscriminately to either Heroes Square or Ahiajoku Center under one pretext of another disrupting the duties of the civil servants and bringing the state to unnecessary standstill for no real reason. The questions I ask are; what is the purpose of this constant verifications whereby civil servants are forced to abandon their duty posts and gather at Heroes Square and Ahiajoku Center? Are there no political undertones to all these rampant calls whereby the civil servants are video taped and used for political propaganda by the government? Must the civil servants be made to gather at these known government propaganda centers when there are heads of departments whose duties are to organize and carry out such verifications ministry by ministry if necessary without having to gather civil servants together to be used for propaganda? Is this another way Owelle plans to sack more civil servants as his administration so far has become synonymous with sacks rather than employment? Why must civil service activities in Imo State be constantly brought to a halt for meaningless verification programs which has not yielded any fruit aside from finding people to sack and AIT propaganda? Is this another ploy to delay payment of civil servants salaries using this verification exercise as a ploy to owe them their hard earned wages and salaries? Is this another way to witch hunt perceived enemies of the government? If I remember correctly, the Imo State Civil servants dared all odds to make sure Chief Ohakim lost the election and voted en mass for Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha. For a people who believed so much in Owelle, many of them today are very disappointed by what has been happening in this regime. Aside from the controversial minimum wage which many claim was not calculated properly, the indiscriminate deductions from the salaries of civil servants without any reason has become a source of worry for many of them who now claim that the government indirectly takes back almost half of the minimum wage increment using fictitious reasons which are never explained. Many in the civil service are now joining the OMG movement (Owelle Must Go Movement) by the day as they claim that what they expected is no longer what they are witnessing with this administration which they put in power. We arent going to point at the youths who along with civil servants and keke riders put Owelle in power but who are yet to understand what this government has planned for them as it is three years yet no meaningful youths oriented program is in place. Our focus is on civil servants and why they are constantly harassed by the government of Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha. Verifications in the civil service are carried out by the Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries and heads of departments and circulars are produced to that effect. These verifications by right and due process are not carried out outside the ministries but are done internally by each ministry before the final reports are forwarded to the Head of Service and other bodies where needed but since Owelles administration which is synonymous with disregard by laid down laws and directives came into play, civil service laws have been disregarded in the treatment of the civil service in Imo State. The Nigerian Civil Service is an apolitical body devoid of political links and should not be used politically so it bothers me and every right thinking person why Owelle practically ordered civil servants to participate in the last Oguta House of Assembly election or face being sacked. For our state to grow, for our state to stop being a laughing stock among our peers, Owelle should please stay away from playing politics with the Imo State Civil Service and face his job which is delivering quality stewardship to the people of Imo State something he is already failing at providing.
