I was just on a thread similar to this one, where a ratwanger objected that you liberals sure like to play the racism card, dont you? Lets start calling that exactly what it is: Its playing the playing the racism card card (I hope you didnt find that too confusing - its actually pretty straightforward) and the ratwangers are doing it all the time. They dont bother to deny that there is racism, nor that what is being described fits the description, because its so much easier to pretend that its just an argumentative tactic being unfairly deployed. Its just deflection away from a real world argument that they know they cant win. Since when is it unfair to tell the truth, or to state the obvious? Note that there are very closely related arguments that you hear almost exclusively from the right wing. One is when a Republican politician breaks the law, and then when a Democrat wants to have them investigated or prosecuted, its described as criminalizing politics. Lets be perfectly clear - the only time that anyone criminalizes politics is when a politician commits a crime, or a crime is committed for political purposes. Again, its a case of deflection away from the real issue. They do this All. The. Time. Youd think that the Dimocrats would have come up with an effective response by now. (via Len Hart)
