I was just sitting with my grownup daughter Emily Platt Ward watching the New York episode of the HBO series, Sonic Highways, which Id recorded, and was blown away by the brilliant use of archival footage and the insights of so many artists and producers, including a couple of folks I know and admire - Steve Rosenthal, the owner of The Magic Shop recording studio, and Nora Guthrie of the Woody Guthrie Foundation. The whole episode was evocative in every way and ultimately very moving. It seemed to affirm so much to Dave Grohl - and, by extension, all of us who commit our lives to music - about what were here to do.
