I was listening to Taras show on WPRO on the way home from work today and heard a caller bashing Jorge Elorza. The guy said two things that really irritated me: He referred to Elorzas candidacy as only bringing more of those people, the Spanish, into the city. Uh, for one, those people dont come into Providence because the Mayor is one of them. And those people have every right to have representation in government - just as much right as those other people do. And secondly, yeah, Im sure theres some Spanish people in Providence. But there are also thousands of Latino, Latina, Hispanic, Dominican, Haitian, etc. people. Just because many of those people speak Spanish, doesnt make them Spanish. Thats like calling me English because I speak English, when in fact Im Portuguese-Irish. I cant stand listening to talk radio sometimes and hearing people call in to make such ignorant statements. Its so disappointing.
