I was listening to some old tunes last night including Black Eyed Peas Where Is The Love and some of Akons earlier hits. Fact of the matter is that music under the umbrella of hip hop has truly gone to the dogs. You might enjoy the songs, but take a second or two to really listen to what they are saying. Gone are the days when music was used to spread awareness about social ills and the ensuing solutions. Now its not even about the skill, but about the most marketable gimmicks. Even once-trusted platforms such as Hype Magazine have indeed become prey to the hype of the mainstream. Ask yourself, would you want your children to listen to the same superficial music youre being forcefed? You may disagree with me, but Im not the one losing brain cells cause of whats on MTV and Trace, for example. Real hip hop is not on the radio...
