You have 24 hours to complete your challenge and donate to this worthy cause. Heres a bit of insight on ALS: Amyothrophic Lateral Sclerosis affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Motor Neurons go from the brain to the spinal cord and then from the spinal cord to the muscles in the body. These motor neurons then progressively degenerate in ALS and evenually leads to the patients death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost, because of this patients in later stages of this disease can become totally paralyzed. Even though some people are skeptical about using the Ice Bucket Challenge to create awareness about this devastating disease, the amount of donations given to the ALS has increased immensely and now they are able to do much needed research towards finding suitable treatments and possibly a cure. After being diagnosed only half the people live for three or more years. 20% live five years or more and only 10% live for more than 10 years!
