I was nominated for the ice bucket challenge by Dan Horst and Trisha Mangan. In lieu of a video and dumping water on my head, I will donate instead to Water of Life. Six to eight million people a year in developing nations will die from preventable water-borne diseases. The majority of these are precious children who arent strong enough to survive diarrhea, typhoid, or any of the other diseases easily contracted by drinking contaminated water. Women and children in these nations are charged with the task of collecting water multiple times a day-- water a long walk from home. Gathered from streams and ponds, puddles and creeks-- water sources that are used for laundry, bathroom facilities, where wild animals bathe and drink as well, and its all the same water that gets carried home in buckets for drinking and cooking. Often miles away from the village. Children dont have time for school. Women dont have time to care for their families or start a business. And precious energy is wasted as these jugs, carried home on ones head, can weigh more than 40 pounds-- a heavy burden for a nutrionally-challenged child. I nominate anyone who sees this and has the means to do so to also give to Water of Life. You can see the different ways you can donate here: givefreshwater.org/give
