I was notified today that a good friend and mentor of 18 years left this earth very suddenly and without warning. Jim Giancarlo inspired me first as a teacher, then as a co-teacher, then gave me my first professional gig at the Oregon Cabaret Theatre where he has been the artistic director and owner for... well... forever. As I grew as a composer we eventually wrote many songs together and a full show: The Wizard of Pantoland... A show that was so successful that it was my first one produced twice! Throughout all of this, we formed a deep friendship that is all too rare in life. Im still in shock. I still dont fully comprehend what life will be like without him out there in the world. We just started writing another show! A couple months ago the gears were in motion but alas, it will not be... this saddens me terribly. Thank you Jimmy for all you brought to my life and to this world. Reading through the posts on your wall, it is so clear you touched so many young artists lives through your generosity as a theater producer as well as a teacher, me included. I will miss you friend.
