I was on the bus yesterday from Boroko to Town and there was a rather distinguished looking elder lady in front of me unapologetically chewing her buai and on one of the seats directly opposite her were two young lovely girls packed like sardines into one seat.... when a passenger disembarked at 2mile and the middle seat became free the elder lady motioned for one of the young girls to take the seat... the lovely little girl gazed wishfully at the seat and then slowly shook her head and whispered in shame, Mi nogat busfare... and the elder woman reached over with a wrinkled hand dusted with white lime and drew the girl down next to her reassuringly stroking her hair and said, Noken worry lewa.... bai mi baim busfare blo yu. It was a glorious display of generosity and gratitude spanning generations and reaffirmed my belief in the core goodness of this society.
