I was on the front porch. I saw two separate cars pull up. Two different state license plates. The states were far apart from each other. The first couple that pulled up was late twenties or early thirties. The woman had on a bandana. You could tell she was bald. I couldnt help to notice how she carried herself. The words, beautiful, graceful, strong and bold come to mind...as does the word cancer. The second car had a couple in early 50s and a woman maybe mid 20s. It was easy to tell our store was their first stop and they had been driving for awhile. The woman in her mid twenties was drawn to the elephants in the shop. She said they mean a lot to her they represent her sister who died. She then explained a memory of a pink elephant. I, being who I am...thought of the sister I have lost and the recent death of my mom and felt compelled to ask a few details. *sometimes its a stranger asking or caring that brings more comfort or validation than people that know you* Her sister died in 1990. The other woman was their mother. She finished the story. The other woman in the room...the one I first noticed, her life was saved by this womans daughter and the other womans sister by the way of being an organ donor. It was 6 years ago that they found each other the the anonymity was broken. They have become family. I saw love, sacrifice and bravery in such a way today...that I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
