I was picking up a couple of Christmas gifts at an Academy sports store today. One of my items was hand warmers to put in my husbands Christmas stocking. He uses them when he goes birding. I borrow them for cold morning grandson soccer games. A man got in line behind me in civilian clothes. He said I havent used those since I skied in Germany. Something made me think the he was a vet. I asked if he was stationed in Germany and thanked him for his service. I told him I was an AF brat, my dad was in the Berlin Airlift. He said he should be thanking us. We continued talking about various duty stations. The cashier interrupted us to tell him the was another register open with no waiting. He said, Oh, no, thats okay. Were just talking about old times. A vet & a brat old enough to be his mother, 2 strangers 30 minutes ago. Now were talkin ol times. That, my friends, is how it works!
