I was raised in a family with an intellectually disabled sibling. My sister, who is 10 years older than me lived with my mum until just a few years ago and now lives in a nursing home. I worked in a hospital for severely disabled kids, most of whom were there because their disability was so severe that they needed constant support and care which their families were unable to provide. Most of them would have a short life and a number died while I was there and I helped prepare their bodies for their parents to come and visit one last time. Maybe one day Ill work somewhere where I can help people with disabilities have the best opportunity to thrive in their lives. If I was this parent, and I was expecting a child who I know would be disabled Im not sure what I would do....What decision I would make, but this video did make me a bit emotional and reminded e of so many of the special kids Ive known in my life who are different, but still happy and who are doing their best to make the most f their lives.
