I was reading the news on the Dhoti-clad Judge being denied entry - TopicsExpress

I was reading the news on the Dhoti-clad Judge being denied entry to a Cricket club on TOI app last night and happened to read through the comments section. There were so many who were bad mouthing and foul mouthing the Tamil people who protested against this and brought in the anti-Hindi protests from no where!! My personal mind voice against all of them is GFYS !! Dhoti has been and will always be not just a traditional attire but also an attire that will always draw unparalleled respect from all, in South India. The Judge was not a member but was INVITED as a Chief guest and it is not necessary for him to follow the rules of the club! How different is it from the traditional kurta?! I have heard some friends say that even certain CEOs wear this for corporate meetings!! I would outrightly say that we are in a way again responsible for this state of affairs. Certain groups of people have begun giving higher priorities for customs and traditions that were not part of the south indian culture at one time. Eg : The Sangeet in marriages!! Where did that ever happen here before?!??? Adopting customs from other parts of India is totally acceptable as long as your traditional customs are given equal or higher importance. This issue is not a storm in a tea cup type of issue, but something that must make all of us aware of the fact that our traditional customs and culture is steeply deteriorating, and will soon be even extinct I am sorry if this may hurt anyone and at the same time I dont care if anyone considers my statement to be biased or anti-nationalistic..but this is my personal opinion..but as the saying goes, Opinions are like a-holes..everyone has one! And I have one too..
