:I was showing pictures of my mother to a Filipino colleague today and the conversation that followed once more put to the forefront just how deeply the Spanish Colonial Government have embed their doctrine of hatred on the psyche of the Filipinos against the Muslims of the Philippines. That till today it continues. She commented on how my mother must have Spanish blood. I felt the immediate rise of offense in my blood. I said, Of course not! It is impossible for us to have any kind of Spanish blood! She looked at me disbelievingly, For 300 years? Cmon. I felt that rush of adrenaline and I could not control the rise of my voice as I stated, Yes, for 333 years they never ruled us. The only area they subjugated is Zamboanga and even then only at daylight for at night, they cowered in their towers. We were never subjugated! She continued to look at me disbelievingly. It is written and attested to by the collective histories of Malaysia and other areas in the region. I repeated. We were never subjugated! She she shrugged nonchalantly. But your mother has foreign blood? Yes, Arab. I realized as I looked at her that it is not her fault. Its the doctrine working still in the collective consciousness of Filipinos. As Uncle Bobby Robert Maulana Marohombsar Alonto keeps saying, it is still a long road ahead and the work for lasting peace has just begun. May Allah Swt help us all!
