I was the N3 Department Head at NCTS-FE in Yokosuka from 95-98. We had 7 Divisions and about 110 US and Japanese men and women in the Department. On superbowl Sunday the game started at ... 6:30am on Monday. Many commands would give their people off on superbowl Monday. I told my Divos they could give their people off, but we needed just one person from each division to be present in case something happened. My CO didnt like that and said I didnt have the authority to give the Sailors time off. I told her they were all going to the base clubs and would have a drink during the superbow (before working hours)l and it wouldnt be safe for them to come to work and work around radios and other electrical equipment. She agreed. Then I had to call my divos and tell them they had to drink during the superbowl or I would have been a liar. They helped me out.
