I was thinking about all the independent and locally owned gas - TopicsExpress

I was thinking about all the independent and locally owned gas stations that were plentiful throughout town, back in the day. Not sure how local some, such as Pure (remember those blue roofed cottages?) and Blue & White (existed until fairly recently) actually were. But seated in the back of my dads 60 Chevy Bel Air, on our many drives from Indys east side to west, the most frequently traveled route was along W Washington, from downtown to White River Pkwy. This was decades before that stretch was reconfigured, after the demolition of the old School #5, and during the construction of White River State Park. The ones along there that come to mind are Aloha (I dont recall any sign -- just Aloha, in black letters, above the entrance) and Site (big, flashy neon sign), a little further west. Upon arriving on the west side, along Lafayette Rd, across from the Municipal Gardens, was one that existed well into the 70s, called Freeway. Any more that Ive forgotten about?
