I was thinking about the homeless Vets. Why cant abandoned houses or apartment buildings, motels, etc, be purchased for rehabilitation purposes. The Vets can do the work, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, landscaping, roofing, whatever. These places could be turned into Veteran oriented compounds. Other Vets could be hired to manage the place, others for security, maintenance. On the Big Island of Hawaii, there are many Vietnam Vet groups living, just them, they take care of each other. With as little supervision as possible, give the Vets direction, what is expected and then let them have at it. I think it can be done. It would not be an expensive endeavor. Minimum rent, maximum return for their money. Set up a purchasing office, and the next thing you know, a blighted neighborhood will be changed for the better. It just would not take much. The less political input the better. If the politicians would realize that they are not the end all, be all of this country, they dont always have the answers, sometimes they actually make things worse by their refusal to acknowledge they dont have all the answers, and can be wrong, any project would roll along just fine, and quicker. There has to be an answer to the homelessness of American Veterans. They would be willing to work, they would be willing to do almost anything.
