I was throwing out old books and found a picture of an old friend who suicided a long time ago; her graduation photo from university, a tough degree for her to get since first she had to stop being a junkie and start being a single mom. Hmm. Shes younger than i remembered. She was profoundly disappointed when she went to her ancestral home in Tallinn Estonia and found it to be a pillaged shithole in post-Soviet Russia ruinous state; she began to drink again during her time there. It is too damned bad, I wont presume to know what caused her to off herself, but part of it certainly was the visit, and how dire things were at the time, in Estonia, and if only shed waited, things have turned around so much there, with a rebounded economy, and a cleaning up of the filth the Russians left behind ... Anyway, the picture is propped up on my desk, and heres thinking of you kid. RIP Maimu.
