I was visiting with this sweet older woman at the lake this evening & I could tell immediately that she was a hardcore fisher. She had her bucket of supplies that when turned upside down, doubled as a chair. Despite the well worn fishing hat, her beautiful dark skin also showed the signs of sun & wind from her beloved sport. A boat pulled up to the pier & she pointed at it & said, I have never been in a boat on the water. I was so surprised that I wasnt sure what to say, but responded that I had spent many hours in a boat on the water but was very uncomfortable if it got too rough, or if dark clouds started showing up. Couldnt help but think about how differently we experienced a common activity. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said, Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. (John 21:5-6) John, who is telling this particular account, was known as the one Jesus loved, the one who knew Him the soonest & had announced, It is The Lord. John was the one that clung so close to Jesus in His sufferings. Peter, while similar to John in love & devotion, was zealous & without careful thought, runs & reaches Him first. Similar to the different ways this lady & I enjoy the same sport, God dispenses His gifts & there are some differences between believers in our ways of honoring Jesus. Some help on shore, while others remain in the boat. Some drag the nets & bring the fish to shore. All in our places, equally serving Him. He knows our frame & He knows our needs & promises not only sufficient grace, but food convenient. Divine Providence extends itself to the smallest of details & content are those of us who acknowledge God in all our ways. Those who are humble, diligent, & patient, in labors & struggles will be crowned. Nothing is lost when we follow thru with Jesus instructions & that is to cast the net on the right side of the boat. Jesus manifests himself to His people by doing for us what NO ONE ELSE can do. He takes care of those who leave all for Him & leave all to Him. And just like that cast net did not break from the fish so heavy it couldnt be lifted into the boat, the net of the Gospel has drawn multitudes & yet its power remains as strong as ever to bring souls to God! Come near to God and He will come near to you... James 4:8 ~ Goodnite fb ❤️
