I was walking through the store this morning with my daughter - TopicsExpress

I was walking through the store this morning with my daughter Carly, like I have of course done a million times. But as I am noticing the holiday cupcakes and pies, and all the rolls and breads, and walking past the meats and cheese, etc.. I glance over and for some reason notice the large apple in her hand that she had spent quite a bit of time picking out. I kind of paused and looked around thinking how awesome it would be for her to be able to go to a store and shop for herself. she cannot reach out and grab what looks good to her. she just passes rows and rows of food that will never be part of her diet. How depressing to see store after store filled with food, and none of it is for you. even the health food stores do not have the foods she needs. Her food has to be ordered through the mail, at such a crazy cost that it is a special occasion that she can afford or gets help to buy any. then it is gone way to soon. We are grateful every day that Newborn screening exists and do not want to seem ungrateful. I all of a sudden felt for that moment that I had just realized how much we take for granted so many things that come so easy for us everyday, like the foods and smells of Thanksgiving and Christmas, that really do not even apply to her. I know thats not what its about but that doesnt keep us from looking forward to enjoying a great meal.
