I was wondering why I react so badly to links that tell me in advance what Im going to think about them - this will blow your mind/change your life, youll choke up at this, youll laugh at this all day etc. Mostly it stops me even clicking on them. Then it struck me its much the same as those back-cover blurbs that tell me a book is heartwarming, brilliant, laugh-out-loud funny etc, and which always make me mutter Right, pal, prove it or Ill be the judge of that. Do enthusiastic blurbs predispose you to like a book, or to judge it more harshly?
