I was working for CBS television on the way to a meeting. I was enjoying a beautiful sunny day with a huge cup of coffee as I traveled down the highway. My morning was interrupted by a phone call from the office.... actually it was a strange message that I did not understand. My coworker sitting next to me in the car had just told a hilarious joke.... in the middle of my laughter I had to ask my general manager on the other end of the phone to repeat what he said. As a person terrified of heights I was not a big fan of the World Trade Center towers.... I was confused by what he just said. I pulled over to the side of the road and went into the nearest open business a Jamaica restaurant. All the people there were crying.... the Jamaican owner was saying over and over not in my new country no no !!! Everyone was staring at the TV set. There was so much confusion and so many tears. My coworker and I was still confused and dazed. As our new friend from Jamaica tried to explain what was going on as he sobbed to my horror a plane flew into the World Trade Center tower......omg now the phone call from CBS was beginning to make sense to me. Without realizing it I was crying just as hard as my new Jamaican friends. We had to hurry to get cameras on the street to get response from the local people.... it was almost total silence as every person I tried to interview was in shock. I quickly gathered as much material as I could and hurried back to the office two hours away... the car radio was blaring.... but my coworker and I drove in complete silence 9/11 a day that started off like any other.... had turned into a day where I lost the last of my innocence. Where were you on 9/11 when you learned of this catastrophe ?
