I wasnt sure what to post about this but Ill let the pictures - TopicsExpress

I wasnt sure what to post about this but Ill let the pictures speak for themselves for the most part. We had a tornado warning and threat on Monday morning. I was terrified for the cats and this awesome kennel, which has now become their house. They are finally getting settled to where they like being inside and for anything to happen to it would devastate me and them. Here in Georgia, in the Winter when it rains, it is usually fairly warm during that time but immediately after, it will get very cold for several days and that is exactly what has happened. It was so cold and windy on Tuesday all day that the wrap around tarp was not giving them much protection when the winds were between 45-60 mph. So, I had an idea - last year I picked up some old comforters from Goodwill for $5.00 a bag. I had used them for the cats last year to try to keep them warm inside the baby playpen and it worked somewhat. So, I dragged them out of the shed and proceeded to hang them inside the kennel to try to block the wind better. It worked! It looks completely goofy inside right now but it did make a big difference in terms of the warmth inside the kennel and keeping the tarp from flapping around so much. So the first 2 pictures portray the ridiculously ugly blankets as best I could get them on there. I also had to move the red roof shelter sideways to keep the wind from blowing directly into it from the door but that created a problem with the blue cooler shelter on top beside the bassinette, soooooooo, I had to figure out a way for the cats to get in there and still leave room for them to get in the bassinette too. It got interesting, at 9 pm, in the bitter cold and winds but I will do what I have to do to protect my babies. So I found some boards and made a platform on the left with the box of straw - which I used some of inside the various shelters to make it deeper. I propped the board up on the box, slid the boards under the bassinette and voila - I had a way for the cats to get in the bassinette. Great! Next project was to get a way for them to climb into the blue cooler. We have these cable spools all over our yard - kinda dirty but too cold and dark to clean them out so I just grabbed them as they were and made a tower. Hey, we got a junk yard here, so if nobody is using it, I will find a way to make it work for the cats. And I did! Its about as redneck as one can get, but it does the job and they can easily get in and out and its quite sturdy too, no chance of it tipping over. So that was Tuesday night. Then late that night I went to put the microwaveable warmers in the bassinette and other shelters. Note to self - DO NOT put a warmer in the blue cooler - cant get the darn thing out through the doors when it cools down and turns hard again! I had to take the entire cooler out, and open the lid to get the warmer out when it was solid but I have the inside all full of straw and a kitty mat so that was a rather messy job. Have to rethink that one! So Miss Jezebel was sleeping in the bassinette on the end where it meets the cooler - thats HER spot. I picked her up and put the warmer under her kitty mat and put her back in there and she immediately got very, very happy! I mean, there was pure bliss on that cats face when she realized her bed was toasty warm. She got on her back and let me rub her belly, something Jezzie NEVER does, she let me play with her paws, and love on her a bit and she was purring up a storm the whole time. It was the most precious and tender moment I have ever had with her since she was a wee kitten. Amazing what it takes to make her that happy LOL. My heart was so full of love for that cat, and that moment made all the work worthwhile. I just wished I had my camera so you could have seen how adorable it was. Tonight its not windy, just cold, so I got the warmers ready once again and went back out there and this time, there were 3 inside the bassinette- much to my shock! Lois, Owen and Jezzie were all snuggled up together and I realized then that I do not have to worry about them getting cold anymore. Lois got out as soon as she saw me, but I was able to feel her body and her ears and she was warm all over. So were Owen and Jezzie. So I figured that when it gets bad enough, they will snuggle up and keep each other warm. It was the first time I had seen Owen in there like that but I was so proud of him. Now if I could just find O-Jay in there too, wed be in good shape. They are slowly learning that this is a good place to hang out and I am so proud of them and so relieved that this is working as I had hoped. So here are a few pictures from tonight - mostly of Jezzie showing off her gratitude for the warmer, but this is what makes it all worthwhile - to see her so happy, to see Owen all cozy in there - it really was amazing. Gus was on the floor the entire time, hes a perpetual road block when Im around and loves to stand right at my feet so I cant move and he refuses to budge even if I try to move him, he just presses into me that much more LOL. I put a warmer in the red roof sheltler on the floor and he started to go in there but then changed his mind. Its there if he wants it though. I didnt get Lois in the bassinette - yet, but Im sure with time that will come. However, I hope you enjoy these few photos tonight. Im so glad I remembered to bring the camera this time, so I could capture these precious moments and share them with you! Have a great night everybody! 💙💚💛💜❤
