I watched Boyhood today and it was fantastic. It was what I expected it to be, just a glimpse of the life of a boy from his childhood to his 18 years of age, but the way that its done is so natural. Not the best film ever made, but certainly a milestone in cinema. Richard Linklater is the type of director that might not get the credit he deserves, but he is certainly the one a lot of us need due to the abundance of overly dramatic and epic films that are out there, especially in American cinema. Because sometimes, less is more, and this film, even though it was filmed throughout 12 years, is proof of that. You see Ellar Coltranes character, Mason Jr, grow, but it doesnt feel disjointed at all. And all his family problems are done in such a believable way. There is drama, but not overly exaggerated. There is sadness, but not completely teary eyed. There is character development, but done in a very subtle way. Time changes, technology advances, people grow, and it flows beautifully. Scenes where it seems all hell might break loose, it wont. Why? Because the majority of us who are here today went through those situations, situations that could have ended in an awful manner, but they didnt. We all remember being with our friends and doing crazy things, but nothing bad happened. Parents making good decisions, parents making bad decisions. Us being the good kid, us wanting to become rebels. And all of these situations flow naturally. We want to become someone special, but so does everybody. Responsibility is a must for everyone, but we want to be free. Thats childhood, thats teenagehood, thats Boyhood. Trailer: https://youtube/watch?v=Ys-mbHXyWX4
