I watched Chan-wook Parks OLDBOY for the first time last night. I dont know why it took me so long to see it. It came out in 2003 and my friends have been talking it up for the last ten years. I have to say, it was pretty great! Dark and grim, but great. One of the most brutal revenge tales Ive seen in a long time. Min-sik Choi is mesmerizing as Dae-su Oh--a man who finds himself imprisoned for 15 years without any sort of explanation. Once Dae-su Oh returns to the outside world, he is consumed by a need for revenge. And where the film goes from there is best left unsaid. Spike Lee currently put together an OLDBOY redo and while I have yet to see it, I have a hard time believing it could rival this shocking, unnerving, poetic movie. Whats in the box? Well, it aint Gwyneth Paltrows head but its every bit as gut wrenching. This Korean import is quite the masterwork. youtube/watch?v=votCaLkoE0k
