I watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the first time tonight. Admittedly I watched this because I was watching the Seinfeld episode tonight, where Jerry makes a reference from The Wrath of Kahn to Susan’s parents at her grave site. So I figure maybe I should see the movies, AND since I love all of George Takei’s posts on here. My thoughts: I had no idea the dad from 7th Heaven was on Star Trek.. Shatner in that first movie looks a lot like Ray Liotta now.. Every time George Takei was on the screen I would instinctively say “Oh Myyy” and be disappointed that George didn’t say it as well – although the look of amazement he has on his face is just about every scene went quite well with the quote.. They do not give any explanation whatsoever as to what is going on, any background to the story, especially to someone with the only Star Trek knowledge of “beam me up Scotty” and the hand signal.. The visual effects are quite humorous, but it was 1979 so I’ll let it slide, because only awesome things were made in 1979.. The movie is really quite terrible, in my opinion, but I will try to watch a couple of more
