I watched The Wind Rises. Its the newest animation movie of Hayao Miyazaki who are famous for Spirited Away. It was released last year in Japan, and won a reputation. I was eagerly waiting for its release in the UK. Its story is based on a biography of Jiro Horikoshi, a designer of air crafts including Zero fighter. That said, the movie is not a true biographic non-fiction, and some parts of it are based on a novel, Kaze Tachinu, which means the wind rises, written by Tatsuo Hori. Above all, Miyazaki seems to have described himself by telling a stroty of the aircraft designer. In The Wind Rises, Horikoshi shows his great enthusiasm to make up beautiful air crafts, and achieves it at the expense of everything. It is well known that Miyazaki is strongly infatuated with flying in the sky and he works on his movies with his whole heart. It may reflects a part of the Japanese peoples view on business. For the Japanese people, business is one of the most important ways of self-actualization and to live out dreams. Therefore, they often work extremely hard and sometimes sacrifice a great deal. In the movie, Horikoshi recognises that aircraft production poses a large financial burden on Japan and leave lots of people poor. Though he recognises his egoism, he cannot give up his dream. Miyazaki apparently projected his egoism in creation onto the aircraft designer.
