I watched a lapel camera video this morning of a Police Officer in Oklahoma shooting a young man who had dropped his loaded gun, and was in the process of picking it up and pointing it in the direction of the PO. The local head of the NAACP found fault with this and stated that the police could have surrounded him and arrested him. I dont know how 1 Police Officer surrounds anyone, but I digress. I think the NAACP head is confused about how police react when confronted with deadly physical force, and I blame TV. So, as a public service, I will point out the difference between TV Police and real life Police: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU POINT YOUR GUN AT THE POLICE ON TV. The officer holsters his weapon and raises his hands. He then slowly approaches you, all the while speaking in a calm and reassuring voice. When he gets close enough he reaches up and gently removes the gun from your hand. You then break down sobbing because, at the heart of it, you are a good person who was put in a bad situation. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU POINT A GUN AT THE POLICE IN REAL LIFE. They will shoot your ass. I hope this clears up a couple of misconceptions.
