I watched the movie, Mr. Jones today, starring Richard - TopicsExpress

I watched the movie, Mr. Jones today, starring Richard Gere. Mr. Jones, portrayed by Richard, suffers from bipolar disorder and resists treatment for the larger part of his life, because he cannot live without the highs of his illness. This must be an extremely common feeling, as Ive talked to people who have said the very same thing; that they feel almost numb on medication or normal. But, we must keep in mind that for those who suffer with bipolar or manic-depression, are used to feeling lots of emotions instead of just one, middle ground feeling. Their normal IS the highs and the lows therefore, the new normal can be difficult to adjust to. Perhaps the most dangerous part of going without treatment, for those who suffer with bipolar, is when they do crash and reach their lowest mood. This is when, for many, that the sadness engulfs them and they quickly find themselves in that darkest place where they can no longer see any glimpse of light that makes life worth living. Every time Hollywood puts out a movie about mental illnesses, I am grateful! To me, it is a step in the right direction of raising awareness and showing us that our mental health, as a whole, really does affect us all. It shows us that we need to be more compassionate and more open to illnesses of the mind and not just illnesses of the body. The entire world needs to know and always remember that mental illnesses arent just in someones head, that ANYONE can fall ill, that will power alone cannot make any illness go away, that these illnesses DO, in fact, exist and often times can be treated with success. If you havent already watched Mr. Jones, which was released in 93, it can really give you a better perspective of what it might be like for those you love who suffer from bipolar or even yourself. As Ive said before, I am not a Doctor, Nurse, Therapist or Counselor. But, after watching this movie a second time, I can see well that those who struggle with this illness should know that there IS help for them. There are good Doctors, Therapists and medication that may very well save someones life. And, thats exactly what I am here to try and do. I hope this finds you each doing well! XxAdmin
